What Is a Legal Elk in Colorado

I am a non-resident and I am monitoring the hunt for 71, 74 and 75 Bow Shells OTC units. I was just curious about how these units are and any information would help. Are they solid units for bulls? From what I`ve read, these units see a lot of traffic, but I like to get off the roads and hike at least a few miles, so my preference is to get away from people. I have a real moose hunt in Colorado – well, except for this fourth part. My hunting partner Nathan Robinson (no relation we can trace) and I followed our guide, Paul Ritchey, through the mountains of the San Juan National Forest, and we didn`t even see a legal bull (at least four dots on one side or a 5-inch forehead). It is now the third day of the hunt. They are obviously offended by my observation that I see many hunters driving on the roads in search of a light shot. I will not stand in the way of your success on the road, nor will I deny you that right. And that`s just my opinion why most people drive on the roads. But many have told me that they do just that. You are looking for a simple shot and a simple bag. Deciding where to hunt ultimately depends on what you expect from a moose hunt.

In reality, if you shoot an arrow on the map and it lands on national forest lands somewhere in Inter-Mountain West, you have a chance of finding moose. There are also millions of acres of BLM and Crown land that have moose. The six western states have a lot of public land and a lot of moose. But they also have different differences in climate, habitats, and terrain (ecoregions). The more you know about all these things that determine moose habitat and where moose resides (including lack of development and disturbance), the better your hunt will be. Yes, you have to do a lot of research. I`ve never camped at a campsite since I was a kid, so I can`t talk to good campsites. I am not sure what you mean by “region,“ but all national forests have campgrounds. It`s hard to know what to recommend without knowing exactly what type of moose hunt you`re looking for. Are you camping? Are you planning a backcountry hunt or do you stay close to roads? Do you like to hunt in the highlands or do you want to hunt down oak brushing or PJ? I am not sure what you mean when you say that a guided hunt “is not better because it is organized.” The purpose of a guided hunt is to use someone`s local knowledge. Of course, nothing is guaranteed.

Some people want to hire the guide and others just want someone to set up camp, pack them, pack their equipment and pack all the moose they harvest. These hunts can take place on public or private land. I don`t want or need a guide and Bob, you don`t need a guide, but it`s an option for some. I have never heard of calling the wildlife office to have someone find an injured animal or help them unpack it. It`s great if they actually do it and if you have a phone number for that, I`ll post it here. I can`t even get law enforcement to respond to reports of illegal activity. I reported a poached moose and didn`t even get a reminder. Thanks again for the comments and good luck with your next hunt.

Sorry for the slow response, but I was hunting for moose. It`s probably too late to find labels for this year unless you`re buying private landowner labels, which can be very expensive. I suggest your boss learn what they need to know to apply for limited-entry elk tags or buy OTC labels for next year. Better to prepare quickly, you will need to apply for labels by the end of January (LE labels in Wyoming for non-residents). I read your book and loved it. Thank you for your insight. My brother and I want to do our first moose hunt next year. We have a few preference points for Colorado and are seriously considering an archery hunt in GMU 501. We are in good shape and intend to go as deep as possible into the desert. This unit has only about 65 archery marks and 65 muzzle loading marks per year, but it seems that the herd is not large here. Success rates are 20% for this unit.

I was wondering what you thought about unity and also what time of year you were going to look at. That`s what I read best this opening week. I also read that last week is the best because it is more the peak of the rut, but the moose will have chased the feeder more by mouth and may have moved to private reserves. Thank you very much for your help! I knew there was camping all over the forest and BLM, I just wanted to say specifically what a good area that has a campground would be. We plan to stay two weeks to do it and it`s a long time without showering and hiking on a mountain. Which unit do you recommend? My buddy and I have 9 points, we are tired of wasting money and never winning anything (point creep). We want to cash in in 2017 and leave. We want moose archery.

We are not trophy hunters, any legal bull will and only wants moose and not tons of people. We would be from Wisconsin, so pre-screening is not an option or is a high-priced outfitter, probably DIY or small intrusion fees. Which device do you recommend with 9 NR points? First, let`s define what genus evidence means for each species. The testicle, scrotum or penis of the animal associated with the body, or the antlers and head of a deer or bull moose attached to the carcass. The detachable heads of the animal are not proof of sex. The head, udder or vulva must still be attached to the carcass for a deer or cow. A scrotum or penis must be attached to the carcass of a male black bear, while the vulva must remain on the carcass of a black bear. In order to be able to distinguish between sexes and species during transport, small game must also retain its wings, rammed legs, skin or plumage. I think the hardest part of hunting on public land is deciding what kind of habitat you want to hunt, and then choosing a state to hunt, and then learning the rules of that state and where to find all the necessary information. That`s why I wrote the DIY Moose Hunting Guide. The biggest bulls I`ve ever seen were 3 years ago at mile 25 on colo 115. At midnight, they left Fort Carson to join Beaver Creek Wildlife Sanctuary.

I turned around, only to review what I thought I had seen. Antlers as long as the bodies of bulls. Clifton: You have to dig through CDW`s website and govern yourself. One thing you`ll learn is that government agencies, ease of use, and customer service don`t belong in a sentence. If you want to hunt moose, you need to learn what to do, when and where you can do it. Colorado OTC Elk Archery Both Sex Hunting Card 1.
