Exposure notification technology is configured based on the region you are in (in the US, it is based on the state you are in). When you download the NYS ENX app and follow the onboarding process, your phone automatically sets your exposure notification region to New York. If you`re traveling outside of New York State, your phone can still exchange anonymous keys with contacts outside the state, but you`ll only receive exposure notifications based on your exposure to other app users who use the same exposure notification key server as New York City (via the Association of Public Health Laboratories). A close contact is a person who is identified by the positive case during the case investigation. These people are then informed that they have been exposed to the virus. Exposure means that you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. As of August 11, 2022, the CDC will no longer require quarantine (separation of a healthy person or group of healthy people from others due to exposure to a contagious disease) after exposure to COVID-19. Please note that while the definitions of “isolation” and “quarantine” have changed, the definition of “close contact” remains the same. According to NYS DOH, a person who has been in “close contact” is someone who (1) shares the same household with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 (“case”), (2) has had direct physical contact with a case, (3) has had direct contact with infectious secretions from a case (e.g., talking, coughing), or (4) has been within 6 feet of a case within 24 hours 10 minutes or more. This is a different standard from the CDC definition, which uses a 15-minute period within 24 hours. Contact advice depends on vaccination status, i.e.
whether you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines. Therefore, there are more practical scenarios for contacts than for case leads. When a confirmed case is identified, they are interviewed by a case investigator and asked where they have been, and to list the people they have been in close contact with during the period they were contagious, usually 2 days before they had symptoms or were tested. If you or someone you know tests positive for COVID-19, it`s important that you know the steps you need to take to protect yourself and those around you and reduce the spread of the virus in your community. These precautions include isolating, wearing a mask and avoiding contact with people at high risk of getting sick. Please refer to coronavirus.health.ny.gov/find-test-site-near-you to find out where your nearest test location is. We can also help you plan at a NYS test site near you. Employees who need to quarantine must stay home and separate from others for at least 5 days. Day 0 is the date the employee has been in close contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19. If no symptoms develop, the employee should be tested on or after day 5. If the test results are negative, the employee`s quarantine period may end, but the employee must continue to wear a mask until the 10th day following the date of close contact.
However, if the asymptomatic employee tests positive, they must be isolated 5 days after the test date (see “Isolation” below). NYS DOH guidelines state that “if it is not possible to get tested 5 days after the last close contact with a person with COVID-19, quarantine may end after day 5 if there were NO symptoms of COVID-19” (emphasis added). However, if the employee develops symptoms after close contact, they must be tested and, if the test result is positive, the employee must self-isolate as described below. Test & Trace has kept abreast of all the new pieces affecting New York City, including how we manage isolation, quarantine, and protecting the population from serious illness. New York State recently released updated guidelines for cases and contacts. If you test positive and share your close contact codes in the app, exposure alerts will be sent to other app users based on your previous activity (up to 14 days of review). Your future activities will not trigger additional alerts. Contact tracing is the process of connecting with all close contacts identified by the positive case during the case investigation.
For contacts who are NOT up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines If you test positive after downloading the app and enabling exposure notifications, you are entitled to an 8-digit code through the apps` self-service features. In the NYS ENX app, tap the “I need a code” button > enter your phone number> enter your test date> tap the “Send code” button. You will receive a secure SMS, simply follow the instructions in the message and enter the code in the app. A similar process occurs for iOS. For more information, see Configuration. Entering this code can trigger threat alerts for other app users who may have been in close contact with you and can help protect others. New York State has also given local health authorities the option to suspend contact tracing. That said, if you test positive for COVID-19 or are in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you may not receive a call from a COVID-19 case investigator in a county or state.

(May not appear in all browsers.) September 14, 2022 – This form can be used as if it were an individual isolation order issued by the New York State Health Commissioner. Your local health department or the New York State Department of Health may contact you for more information. This attestation form will include the start and end dates of your isolation as you indicate, depending on your particular situation, in accordance with the New York State Department of Health`s exposure notification guidelines. The technology can send you an alert if you have been in close contact with multiple COVID-positive people at different times during the same 24-hour window. even though these interactions lasted less than 10 minutes each. NYS ENX is a voluntary and anonymous smartphone app with exposure notification. You will receive a notification if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. If you haven`t been vaccinated or have symptoms, you can immediately quarantine, get tested, and reduce the potential risk of exposure to family, friends, neighbours, co-workers and others. The NYS DOH guidelines conveniently provide the who, what, where, when, and how of quarantine – the period during which a person should separate and monitor for symptoms after being in “close contact” with someone who has been or is suspected of having COVID-19 – and isolation – when people with confirmed (tested positive) or suspected COVID-19 (symptomatic) are separated from those without COVID-19. NYS has a policy requiring New York insurers to waive the cost of COVID-19 testing. Testing is free at all sampling points operated by NYS.
An appointment is required. To find the nearest location and pre-register, call the NYS COVID hotline (888) 364-3065. The NYS website for testing is coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-testing. Older adults and anyone with an underlying chronic condition may be at higher risk. These include the elderly, people who are immunocompromised or have a chronic disease, especially heart or lung disease, and diabetes.
