All students who achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80% or higher after graduating from Ontario College will automatically receive a one-time scholarship of $2,500 in recognition of their academic achievement at the diploma level. Humber`s Paralegal Education Diploma program explores theoretical, procedural and legal aspects of law that can be covered by a paralegal licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. You will gain specialist practical skills in the areas of advocacy, legal research, specific courts and administrative tribunals. The curriculum covers economics, small claims litigation, criminal summary convictions, provincial crimes, landlords and tenants (among a variety of other boards and courts), labour law, and alternative dispute resolution. Students develop strong oral advocacy skills by participating in classes and role plays, as well as presentations and mock trials in front of peers and a wide audience. Once you have been accepted and confirmed your offer, you may need to meet another set of requirements related to your program (post-admission requirements). Paralegals interview clients and witnesses, prepare legal documents and affidavits, conduct legal research, and often find important information for a legal case. They identify precedents and play a key role in helping lawyers prepare for examinations for discovery, settlement hearings and litigation. A selection of common social systems (e.g. running a business) and societal problems (e.g. family separations) is examined. The program serves as an introduction for those considering a career that requires a basic understanding of law, or for those who wish to broaden or update their knowledge on the subject.
