I also teach my scouts the song Trusty Tommy. However, I replace faithful with trustworthy. We always follow him by saying the Scout Law. The Scout Law, often referred to as the basic principles of Scouting, describes the values that each Scout must follow in order to become an integral member of his or her community. While most Scouts can easily recite the Scout Law, very few really understand it. The global “rule” may seem potentially negative to people, and for many, the automatic response is, “I don`t want to follow any rules.” But the truth is that without rules, it would be impossible to play a game or even have fun. Could you play baseball if there were no rules, no way to count runs, and everyone would run backwards around the bases? Rules are necessary to think creatively and critically and to have fun. The rule of law is a cornerstone of the functioning of societies and democracies in general. Rules that do not take into account the desire of the people are rules that are not democratic, but dividing into triplets did not work for us, but breaking it down into three groups of four.
I told my son the four first principles, and then asked him to repeat them as he walked around the cabin where we were spending the weekend. When he came back to me, I let him tell me. Then I gave him the next four. When he came back, I made him say all eight. and he did it without any problem. I gave him the last four and sent him on his way. When he returned for the third time, he was able to say the whole Scout Law without hesitation. He was so proud to have been able to say it perfectly with the scout troop we visited the following week, and they were really impressed.
Since then, of course, the real learning has begun – learning what they mean and practicing them in his daily life! That was a few years ago and now he uses this technique to teach the new Scouts in our troop! They usually come back from their first Scout camp, with all the law memorized. We expect our scouts to take personal responsibility for themselves and, to some extent, for their teammates and the rules they should follow. A scout is obedient. A Scout follows the rules of his family, his school and his troop. He obeys the laws of his community and his country. If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to change them in an orderly way instead of not following them. Building a Better World urges Scouts to “learn” the rights and duties of citizens and to “discuss” the concept of the rule of law. It`s a bit like school, doesn`t it? I hope this article has been helpful to you. Keep coming back to ScoutSmarts because I`m constantly posting new tips and helpful guides for merit badges to support Scouts like you.
See you next time, good luck with your scouting trip! OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school and pack. Obey the laws of your community and your country. Our Scouts govern their teams democratically and they create their own team constitution and statuses. And our Scouts choose, organize and lead their own meetings, programs and activities so that they can have their say in their own rules so that they are fair to everyone. We allow our Scouts to personalize their Scouting experience. Rights and Duties of Citizen Activity ~ Cub Scout Ideas The latest version is played offline. Then ask them to name something they have done to make them good citizens. To live happily, believing Christians preserve ancient ecclesiastical traditions because Christ redeems. Scout Oath In my honor, I will do my best to fulfill my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; help others at all times; to keep me physically strong, mentally awake and morally upright. Our guys always reacted well to physical activity, so I did a relay race for them. I took trays of aluminum cakes and made two sentences of twelve, each with a word of the Scout law. The squadron consisted of throwing the pile of cake plates on a line, then running to pick them up, bringing them back to the beginning and organizing the plates in the order of the Scout Law.
First of all, it would happen as teams between two teams. As they improved, the game changed so that every boy on every team got a throw. It was fun, physically and they learned the Scout Law. Write down their answers on a whiteboard or flipchart. I love these flip charts because they have their own built-in “easel.” Before starting these activities, take a few minutes and ask the Scouts what they think of the rights and duties. I love Trusty Tommy`s song! What if they hummed the song a little? How many of us would not know the full preamble of the Constitution without Schoolhouse Rock`s “We the People”? Mnemonics are used in school all the time, I still remember the ones for the 12 trigeminal nerves of the nursing school (“On old Olympus` Towering Top”) and I remember what that means. Believe it or not, your attitude is a choice. Try to make others happy. Being joyful, even in difficult situations, will draw others to you and differentiate you as a leader.
I have a personal saying: “Is it hard? Good. Carry on. It reminds me to take on challenges with joy and perseverance. Do you think your arrows of light will enjoy this way of learning matter in Building a Better World? A Scout is TRUSTWORTHY, LOYAL, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY, POLITE, OBEDIENT FRIENDLY, CHEERFUL, THRIFTY, COURAGEOUS, CLEAN and REVERENT Put it into action: the next time you see workers who usually go unnoticed, such as janitors or bus drivers, sincerely thank them for the work they do. A little kindness can go a long way. If our scouts find that policies such as non-discrimination are not being properly followed in their teams, they have a responsibility to advise us so that we can take action. Travel to the Big Thicket National Preserve of East Texas Really a great idea with the Jeopardy Game. Good job!! CLEAN. Keep your body and mind in shape. Help keep your home and community clean. But before we can contribute to their communities and to our country, our Scouts need to learn more about how our form of government works.
A scout is economical. A Scout works to pay for his own way and help others. He saves for the future. It protects and conserves natural resources. He pays attention to time and property. Right after joining Scouting, I was asked to explain each of the principles of the Scout Law. I couldn`t. When I tried, I realized how difficult it was to understand and apply values in my own life. I knew the words, but I didn`t live their message. My journey in Scouting has put me on the path to discovering these answers, and I have done so.
Reliability also means staying true to your word. Follow what you`re going to say, and people will start taking you more seriously. Personally, it was only if I committed and persevered that I was able to build truly meaningful relationships. If you remain trustworthy in your actions and words, good things will certainly follow. Since its inception, the Scouting Programme has been an educational experience that deals with values. In 1910, the first activities for Scouts were developed to develop character, fitness, practical skills and service. These elements were part of the original Cub Scout program and are still part of Cub Scouting today: courtesy is how you can show respect to others. It`s important to be polite to be taken seriously, especially when it comes to adults. By taking the time to please say and thank yourself and acknowledge what others have done for you, you show your appreciation and respect for the other person. Put it into action: Overall, none of your fears matter.
Count your blessings and try to be truly grateful for everything you have. Then, decide to deepen your relationship with another person by the end of this week. Bravery is not the absence of fear, it means doing the right thing even if you are afraid. It means defending oneself and others, even if it is criticized, ridiculed or even hated. In the face of peer pressure, it is a real sign of courage to courageously adhere to one`s values. I`ve used online gambling in the past and it was great. I wanted to use it today, but the questions and answers are all empty? I hope it can be fixed because it was a lot of fun for the guys. I`m going to have to use the Powerpoint version, but I would have liked to use the online version, it was great.
Instead of a boring conversation or a discussion with just empty eyes, turn it into a fun activity and competition. I made a version similar to Matt, but I made a billboard with a scout on top, then I used a different colored billboard and cut stripes and printed the single word on each stripe, laminated the stripes and placed the space on the main wall of the poster for them. We then mixed them into a pile and each boy took turns and placed them in order on the poster. The fastest time was won by a pearl for its totem. They had learned it in no time and had fun at the same time. We did that for a few weeks at the beginning of the meetings. It worked! All the great learning methods. No one method is the best for everyone. Use the one that best suits your situation. This song goes even further and helps the boy understand the meaning of each word. We will definitely use it! Thank you very much! Here`s how it works: Roll a cube and ask a volunteer (or the whole cave in unison) to recite the points of the law up to the number that appears.
